The San Carlos City police are now tracking down the identities of those involved in a bomb threat, which was later declared a hoax, while establishing the culprits’ motives and the filing of appropriate criminal charges.
Law enforcement noted they will use all available digital tools to trace the person or group behind the false report, saying such actions seriously undermine public safety, disturb peace and create widespread disruption.
In an official statement released on Sunday, July 12, the San Carlos police and the Philippine Coast Guard Substation said the bomb threat was fabricated to cause panic and disrupt normal operations across the city.
After a full review and onsite inspection, they found no actual danger on the site.
Earlier, San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo issued a strong appeal to residents to help identify the perpetrators and share any information or evidence they may have.
Gustilo also reminded the public that misinformation spread online carries real consequences.
“Sharing unverified, inaccurate or unsubstantiated content causes stress and creates a harmful environment,” Gustilo said.
“Every action we take online shapes how our community is seen — and we must all act with care and integrity,” he added.
Gustilo urged social media users to verify facts and sources before reposting or sharing information, and to practice responsible digital conduct to protect the city’s peace and harmony./CCJ, WDJ
