A soldier and his wife were killed during an altercation inside their home at Purok Tilapia in Bacolod City’s Barangay 3 on Sunday, July 12.
Police identified the fatalities as 31-year-old Private First Class Erwin Paul Pendon, who was assigned to the Philippine Army’s 11th Infantry Battalion, and his wife, 26-year-old Leonora.
Police Station 2 officer-in-charge Lt. Conan Gadayan said the couple had a heated argument at 5:13 p.m.
Earlier reports indicated the soldier allegedly used his service firearm to shoot himself in the head.
However, a police follow-up investigation found that his death was the result of accidental firing and not suicide.
Police said the second gunshot from the pistol hit his head.
When the soldier’s father, identified as 54-year-old alias “Edwin,” saw his son lying on the floor, he allegedly took a knife and stabbed his Leonora in the back.
Gadayan said the couple was rushed to a hospital but did not survive.
Police recovered a Glock 17 pistol from the scene.
It was learned that the couple had a fight after Leonora confronted her husband.
Meanwhile, “Edwin” voluntarily surrendered to Police Station 2./MAP, WDJ
