Bacolod City Administrator Mark Steven Mayo is calling on residents to help crack down on illegal dumping in unauthorized areas by reporting violators.
Mayo assured the public that all reports would be kept confidential and the identities of informants would not be disclosed.
However, Mayo discouraged confronting violators despite citizen’s arrests are allowed under the law.
He advised the public to record the incident through photos or videos at the exact location; get the vehicle’s plate number if a vehicle is used; and note how many people are involved.
“It is better to just document the incident through video or photos and go through the proper process,” he said.
The witnesses are advised to submit evidence immediately to the concerned city office or department head for endorsement to the City Administrator’s Office, City Legal Office and the Office of the City Mayor.
The city government has been intensifying its anti-illegal dumping campaign as part of efforts to maintain cleanliness, protect public health and preserve the environment./WDJ
