A 29-year-old fisherman was arrested after he allegedly hacked a 30-year-old man at Barangay Talaban in Negros Occidental’s Himamaylan City on Tuesday night, June 23.

Police identified the suspect only as alias “Roger,” a resident of Sitio Batang in the village, while the victim, alias “Jimmy,” is a resident of Davao City’s Barangay Pakibato.

Police investigation showed that the victim had been drinking liquor at his residence at about 7:50 p.m. before visiting the father of his live-in partner.

He invited the father for a drink but the latter refused.

Without apparent provocation, the suspect allegedly hacked the victim several times using a bladed weapon, inflicting injuries on his left shoulder, left hip and left wrist.

The suspect then fled to his residence while the victim was rushed by his live-in partner to the Governor Valeriano M. Gatuslao Memorial Hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, the victim reportedly expressed his desire to have the matter referred to the village authorities for an amicable settlement, citing that those involved are family members.

Meanwhile, police conducted a hot pursuit operation that led to the arrest of the suspect at his residence.

He was taken for medical examination and subsequently brought to a police custodial facility for proper disposition./CCJ, WDJ
