Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO) officer-in-charge Allyn Luv Dignadice said yesterday that garbage hauler International Solid Waste Integrated Management Specialists Inc. (I-SWIMS) has intensified its deodorizer spraying operations to eliminate foul odor emanating from the landfill in Barangay Felisa.

This development came after Barangay Felisa Captain Francisco Hilado called on BENRO and I-SWIMS to address the persistent foul odor coming from the landfill and waste collection trucks.

Dignadice said that Hilado’s complaint had already been addressed and that they would continue monitoring the application of deodorizers in the area.

“All their activities were documented, and [I-SWIMS has been] compliant with what they have stated regarding the maintenance of the landfill,” she said.

Aside from deodorizer spraying, Dignadice added that they also identified the wash area for the trucks, and they have also been conducting regular soil covering operations at the landfill.

Dignadice further noted that personnel from the City Health Office were deployed to Barangay Felisa for the monitoring of I-SWIMS’ activities.

Earlier, Hilado raised concerns about the persistent foul odor from the sanitary landfill and waste collection trucks passing through and operating within the barangay.

“Residents have repeatedly expressed concerns regarding the unpleasant odor, which affects the comfort, health and well-being of our constituents, particularly those residing near the routes used by garbage trucks,” Hilado said.

He added that some waste collection vehicles are not being regularly washed or properly sanitized, resulting in foul odors and possible leachate spillage along public roads./MAP, WDJ
