The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Western Visayas (BJMP-6) has reiterated its strict policies against illegal drugs and contrabands after a sachet of shabu was intercepted from a female visitor at Victorias City Jail in Negros Occidental on Sunday, April 20.

“We will continue to strengthen our measures and policies in detecting and confiscating illegal contrabands in order to prevent its entry inside our jails,” BJMP-6 Regional Director Chief Supt. Simeon Dolojo, Sr. said in a statement yesterday.

In a report, the BJMP-6 said a female visitor attempted to smuggle a heat-sealed plastic sachet of shabu inside the jail, but a female jail officer discovered the illegal drug during a search at the entrance.

The visitor was arrested in coordination with law enforcement officers of the Victorias City Police Station and was charged for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Earlier this month, the BJMP-6 put on a restricted status one of its personnel in Dumangas District Jail in Iloilo, who was identified by a suspect arrested in a buy-bust to be directly involved in the violation of the provisions of RA 9165.

“The BJMP-6 remains steadfast and resolute in its policies against illegal drugs and contrabands to achieve drug-free jail facilities in Western Visayas,” BJMP-6 spokesperson and chief of Legal Service Section Sr. Insp. Juniven Umadhay said. (PNA)
