The Holy Week observance in Western Visayas is “generally peaceful and orderly,” according to Police Regional Office (PRO) 6.

Prevention of any serious untoward incident is a result of the effective coordination and cooperation of the church, local leaders, Philippine National Police (PNP), force multipliers, volunteer groups, and other government agencies, according to PRO-6.

Further, the prevention of untoward incidents is due to the widespread information dissemination and security campaign done weeks prior to the occasion, PRO-6 added.

The efforts informed the public ahead about safety measures, reminders, tips, and best practices for safe travel, peaceful vacation, and orderly staging of religious activities.

Police Brigadier General Jack Wanky, PRO-6 regional director, has lauded PNP personnel in the region for their dedication to their duties.

He gave a salute to the sacrifice and contribution of police personnel for the efficient implementation of security plans that are keys to public safety during the entire observance of the “Semana Santa.”

Wanky thanked the local government units, government agencies, barangay officials, barangay tanods (watchmen), rescue groups, and force multipliers for their tireless, unwavering support.

To recall, PRO-6 had deployed thousands of police personnel to monitor churches, solemn processions, Visita Iglesia (church visits), among others.

Police personnel were deployed at tourist destinations, ports, terminals, streets where traffic jams are a common occurrence, and other places frequented by throngs of visitors. (GMA Regional TV)
