Western Visayas has recorded 58 deaths due to coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19, yesterday – the highest COVID-19 deaths recorded in just one day in the region.

These additional COVID-19 deaths are from Iloilo City with 28, Aklan – 29 and Capiz – one, bringing the total COVID-19 deaths in the region to 2, 232 as of August 17.

Of the highly urbanized cities and provinces in the region, Iloilo province has the highest COVID-19 deaths at 528 followed by Iloilo City with 417.

Negros Occidental came in third with 414 COVID-19 deaths followed by Bacolod City with 371, Capiz – 226, Aklan – 124, Antique – 119, and the lowest is Guimaras with 33.

The region also logged 421 additional positive cases yesterday, bringing the total active cases in the region to 421.

There were also 62 COVID-19 patients who recovered from the disease logged yesterday which brought the total recoveries in the region to 81,804./WDJ
