Calatrava native John Michael Zulueta won the Asia Boxing Federation/International Boxing Federation (ABF/IBF) light flyweight titles over the weekend following a fourth round technical knockout win over Mark Anthony Florida at the Fort Bonifacio Marine Corps Jurado Hall gym in Taguig City.
Earlier this year, the Negrense boxer captured two International Boxing Organization (IBO) minimumweight titles at the Gaisano Grand Mall in Bacolod City. His unanimous decision win over Ariston Aton earned him the IBO Oceania and Oriental minimumweight belts.
Zulueta dominated from the opening bell as he pounded Florida with his solid left and right combinations until the latter conceded at the end of the fourth round.
With the victory, the Negrense boxer improved to an 11-0-2 win-loss-draw record with four stoppage wins, while Florida dropped to a 12-9-0 record with nine knockout wins.
Meanwhile, Robert ‘Toto’ Landero on Pontevedra scored a unanimous decision win over Joel Lino; Richard Claveras of Silay City lost via technical decision to Giemel Magramo; and, in the main event, Pedro Taduran emerged the new Filipino world champion after bagging the IBF world minimumweight title with a technical stoppage win over Samuel Salva./ASC, WDJ
