The remains of a man were discovered hanging from a utility pole yesterday morning in Bacolod City’s Barangay Taculing. While police have requested anonymity for the deceased, as requested by their family, they did confirm he was 25 years old and was believed to be suffering from depression.
Based on a statement provided by the victim’s family to Police Station 6 (PS6) investigators, the victim had been on a drunken binge since Sunday. The victim’s father tried to stop him last Monday evening but the victim continued. By Tuesday, around 4:00 a.m., the victim’s father saw he was still drinking in front of their sari-sari store when he again tried to get him to stop. The son replied by indicating his desire to kill himself and returned home to retrieve some rope.
Despite being temporarily stopped from proceeding with his plans, a street cleaner stumbled upon the remains around an hour later.
Residents immediately contacted police of the find.
Police recovered the telephone cord used by the victim to hang himself.
The victim’s family has refused an autopsy and believe there was no foul play in the incident./DGB, WDJ
