Vice President Leni Robredo will be in Bacolod City today as keynote speaker for the Negros Occidental Small Fishers Alliance (NOSFA) Provincial Congress at the Business Inn.
The organization seeks to strengthen and advance advocacies for small fisherfolk and fishery workers in Negros Occidental.
Acting NOSFA Chair Antonio Castillo called this year’s congress a “milestone,” saying it shows the organization’s continued campaign for sustainable fisheries and coastal resource management.
Earlier this month, during the 10th Visayan Sea Governors Summit, five governors, including Negros Occidental Governor Alfredo Marañon, Jr., Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr., and Capiz Governor Antonio Del Rosario, signed an agreement committing to the ecosystem approach to fisheries management framework, which promotes the conservation, protection, and restoration of Visayan Sea marine biodiversity.
Other officials expected for the NOSFA event include Marañon, Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, Senator Risa Hontiveros, Magdalo partylist Rep. Gary Alejano, Akbayan partylist Rep. Tom Villarin, among others./WDJ
