Chiong: TFK will not cower in the face of ‘intimidation’
By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga
At least 12 Moises Padilla residents filed falsification charges against Task Force Kasanag (TFK) head John Chiong.
Jocelyn Tablanza and Herna Vinson filed separate criminal charges against Chiong, along with additional charges against three others before the Negros Occidental Provincial Prosecutor’s Office last October 3. Ten others, namely Eden Flores, Romeo Vinson, Louie Presidente, Heide Vicente, Lady Sualog, Ely Estacion, Jerry Lorena, Verly Avila, Felicito Pandanduyan, and Gerardo Aligaan, filed separate civil complaints before the La Carlota City Regional Trial Court last Friday.
The complainants claimed Chiong used their names without permission and falsified their signatures in a complaint filed with the Department of Interior and Local Government. They demand Chiong pay them P200,000 in moral damages, P40,000 in legal fees, a P5,000 appearance fee, and exemplary damages of P200,000.
In response, Chiong denied the allegations but admitted, over the course of TFK’s “pursuit of advocacy against crime and corruption,” they may have “stepped on a few toes.”
He called it “a risk they have to take” in order to advocate rights.
“TFK will not cower in fear in the face of all this intimidation and harassment,” Chiong said.
The group leader added, he will answer to the allegations at a proper venue in order to clear both his name and the group’s reputation./DGB, WDJ
