Kabankalan City Mayor Isidro Zayco yesterday urged the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to fast track the program of work for the Kabankalan City Airport as it will impact the construction schedule of the facility.
“It is up to the DOTr on how they can fast track the [program of work] and the detailed engineering works,” the mayor said in an interview over the weekend.
“We are preparing the airport for the future,” he added.
Zayco noted, while an allocation of P90 million has already been made by DOTr, without the program of work, they cannot begin the bidding process.
He said the city government has begun work on the runway, but pointed out they cannot accept aircraft until they are cleared by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, which requires the program of work.
The mayor has since requested an additional P50 million for the project.
Despite the request to fast track the process, he said there is no timetable set for when the airport should be ready for commercial use./DGB, WDJ
