The Land Transportation Office-Negros Island Region (LTO-NIR) is investigating the fatal road crash involving a bus in Silay City, Negros Occidental on June 1.

In a statement yesterday, the agency said operator Vallacar Transit Inc. has suspended the bus driver and the company’s report on the incident will form part of the investigation.

“The LTO-NIR’s Intelligence and Investigation Unit [IIU] received the verified explanation submitted by Vallacar Transit Inc. concerning the vehicular incident involving one of its buses in Silay City that resulted in a fatality,” it added.

On June 10, IIU personnel served a show-cause order to the bus company’s management at its North Terminal in Bacolod City.

Based on the report, the Ceres bus sideswiped a sedan taxi along the national highway. It caused the taxi to hit an electric bicycle, resulting in the death of a three-year-old female passenger.

In the explanation submitted to the LTO-NIR on June 15, the bus company said the driver underwent a drug test and was found negative for use of illegal drugs. (PNA)
