A 53-year-old male fishpond overseer was found dead inside his residence at Barangay Old Sagay in Negros Occidental’s Sagay City on Sunday afternoon, June 14.
Based on an initial police report, the body was found at around 5:50 p.m. after a concerned citizen alerted authorities about a foul odor coming from the victim’s house at Saint Joseph Village.
Authorities found the victim lying lifeless inside a room of his home.
They noted that the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition, with an unpleasant odor, suggesting that the man may have been dead for approximately four days.
A neighbor told investigators that she last saw the victim alive on the morning of June 11.
She later noticed a strong odor coming from the house, prompting her to check the premises, where she discovered the victim.
A medico-legal officer who examined the cadaver onsite said the exact cause of death could not be immediately determined due to the advanced state of decomposition.
However, the initial assessment suggested the possibility of sudden death during sleep, locally referred to as “bangungot.”/CCJ, WDJ
