Teacher dies after student pressures him to drink acid

A 36-year-old senior high school teacher was allegedly poisoned by his student inside his house in Bacolod City’s Barangay Alijis on Friday, June 12.

Police Colonel Eugene Rebadomia, director of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), in a radio interview, said the teacher, whose identity is being withheld, was found lifeless inside his house with no visible injuries.

Initial investigation revealed that the victim’s mouth smelled of muriatic acid.

Police Station 7 head Police Captain Jay-R Reyes said the 24-year-old Grade 12 student, whose identity is also being withheld, admitted that he forced his teacher to drink a strong chemical while they were having a drinking session.

Prior to that, the student claimed that the victim asked him to drink the acid.

Police said the suspect had been drunk as the teacher was unconscious on the floor.

Investigators are still conducting an investigation to determine the motive behind the killing.

Police said the exact cause of the teacher’s death will be officially confirmed once the autopsy results are released.

Meanwhile, RJ Paglumotan, deputy spokesperson of the Department of Education – Division of Bacolod, also expressed sadness after confirming the details with Police Station 7.
