A seaborne anti-illegal fishing operation led to the arrest of a fisherman along the shoreline of Barangay Miranda in Negros Occidental’s Hinigaran town on Thursday afternoon, June 11.

Hinigaran police, through its Bantay Dagat personnel, apprehended 56-year-old alias “Mario,” a resident of Purok Zone 1A, Barangay Tagda.

He was aboard a motor banca when he was intercepted for violating Section 3 of the municipal ordinance that requires a valid mayor’s permit for fishing activities.

Confiscated from his possession were a fishing boat valued at approximately P25,000, a fishing net worth about P5,000, and assorted fish weighing around 10 kilograms with an estimated value of P1,000.

The suspect opted to settle the violation by paying a fine amounting to P2,500.

All confiscated fish and fishing paraphernalia are currently under the custody of the Municipal Agriculture Office for proper disposition./CCJ, WDJ
