A 57-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly fired an improvised shotgun at the residence of his sister-in-law at Barangay Magballo in Negros Occidental’s Kabankalan City on Sunday night, May 31.
Police identified the suspect only by the alias “Danny,” a resident of the area.
The victim, alias 51-year-old “Joy,” 51, a widowed farmer, escaped unharmed during the incident.
Kabankalan police said the incident occurred at around 7:00 p.m. when the suspect reportedly arrived at the victim’s residence while allegedly under the influence of alcohol and began causing a disturbance.
After leaving the premises, the suspect allegedly returned and fired a shot at the victim’s house before fleeing.
The victim managed to hide during the incident and was not struck by the gunfire.
Authorities recovered an improvised homemade shotgun, locally known as a “sulpak,” along with a spent shotgun shell casing lodged inside the firearm’s barrel.
The suspect was subsequently turned over to Kabankalan police for proper disposition shortly after midnight yesterday.
Investigators also noted that the suspect had sustained injuries before being handed over to police custody.
The recovered firearm and ammunition have been placed under police custody as authorities prepare the appropriate charges against the suspect.
