The Carabell FC – Buglas Girls delivered a strong showing in two football tournaments across Negros Island, collecting three championship titles in Negros Oriental’s Guihulngan City over the weekend.
The squad ruled the 1st Guihulngan Football Cup 7’s held at the Negros Oriental State University – Guihulngan City Campus, winning the gold medals in the Girls Born 2009 and Girls Born 2011 categories.
In the Born 2009 finals, Carabell FC – Buglas Girls defeated Siaton FC, 2-0, behind goals from Nicole Segovia and Marinel Gonzales.
Segovia opened the scoring with a strike from the far left post before Gonzales added another goal with a left-footed volley early in the championship match.
The Girls Born 2011 squad also emerged victorious after edging Leon Kilat FC of Bacong, 1-0, in the finals.
Renee Lomugdang delivered a diagonal pass that set up Yannah Amar for the lone goal of the contest.
A day later, the team added another title after conquering the 28th Manlambus Football Cup 8’s at the AYA Soccer Field in Negros Occidental’s Escalante City on Sunday, May 24.
Competing in the Born 2009 division of the Negros Occidental Regional Football Association-sanctioned tournament, Carabell FC – Buglas Girls blanked Sagay FC, 3-0, in the finals.
Lomugdang sparked the offense with a left diagonal strike that deflected off a Sagay defender and found the net for the opening goal.
Gonzales later earned the tournament’s Most Valuable Player honors following her standout performance throughout the competition.
The team is coached by TD Jiff, Coach Earl, Coach Ron, and Coach Bea.
Following their successful campaign, Carabell FC – Buglas Girls will next compete in the 1st Mango Ranch Soccer Cup in Negros Oriental’s Valencia town on Saturday, May 30./ASC, WDJ
