NIR strikes gold in Palaro athletics

The Negros Island Region (NIR) Visayan Vipers continued their strong campaign in the 66th Palarong Pambansa 2026 after collecting multiple medals in athletics events in Agusan del Sur yesterday.

Ashley Nicole Silvor delivered another gold medal for the NIR squad after ruling the elementary girls 400-meter run.

Silvor showcased her speed and endurance throughout the race to finish on top of the podium and add to the region’s growing medal haul.

Guided by coach Renan Perdon, the young runner produced a composed performance that highlighted the depth of athletic talent from the Department of Education in NIR.

Another gold medal came from Christine Rose Toquero, who topped the secondary girls javelin throw event.

Toquero’s winning effort displayed power and consistency in the field competition.

The Visayan Vipers also celebrated a breakthrough performance from Jonel Metoda, Jr. of Filomeno Pascual Elementary School in Negros Occidental’s Sagay City after he captured the gold medal in the elementary boys javelin throw.

Metoda registered an impressive throw of 52.67 meters to secure first place and strengthen the region’s standing in athletics.

He trained under coach Stella Mae Miranda and trainer Norven Ledesma ahead of the national meet.

Meanwhile, Rajib Ash Catenza contributed another medal for the Visayan Vipers after bagging silver in the elementary boys 110-m hurdles.

Catenza finished second in the event to add another podium result for the region’s athletics team.

He prepared for the competition under coach Stella Mae Miranda and trainer Ronnie Daquillos.

The latest victories and podium finishes boosted the Visayan Vipers’ momentum as more athletics events continue in the annual national games./ASC, WDJ
