The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) underscored the need for intensified fire prevention strategies amid the increasing grass fires in Bacolod City.

As of Wednesday, April 22, 88 incidents have been reported in the month of April alone.

“We are urging land owners and developers to clear their lots of tall grasses and maintain them to prevent grass fires,” BFP-Bacolod City fire marshal Supt. Jenny Masip said in a statement.

In a report, the BFP-Bacolod said “the notable increase in grass fire incidents has prompted discussions on intensified fire prevention strategies, particularly in fire-prone and open areas.”

“There is a need as well for stronger community awareness and enforcement measures,” it added.

BFP-Bacolod presented the city’s current fire safety conditions and response initiatives during the City Management Coordinating Committee meeting convened by the Department of the Interior and Local Government – Bacolod City on Tuesday, April 21.

As the extreme heat caused more frequent grass fires this month, the BFP-Bacolod reminded Bacolodnons to help in the prevention by not burning trash or dry leaves.

It also advised those who smoke to extinguish cigarettes properly.

The BFP-Bacolod also asked the public to keep matches and lighters away from grassy areas, as well as clear dry grass and debris around one’s property. (PNA)
