Employees who will work today, March 20, a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Fitr, will receive double pay of their daily rate, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said.

In an advisory, the department reminded private sector companies that employees who render work during a regular holiday should receive 200 percent of their wage for the first eight hours.

If the worker did not work on the holiday, they receive 100 percent of their wage that day, provided they are on approved leave of absence on the day immediately preceding the regular holiday.

Work performed beyond eight hours shall be paid an additional 30 percent of their hourly rate on that day.

If the regular holiday falls on the employee’s rest day and work is rendered, they get paid an additional 30 percent of the basic wage of 200 percent.

Overtime work should be paid with an additional 30 percent of the hourly rate on the holiday.

The DOLE reminded employers to comply with the prescribed pay rules to ensure the proper payment of wages for employees during declared holidays.

Eid’l Fitr is the Islamic feast marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Malacañang said the holiday declaration recognizes the significance of Eid’l Fitr, which concludes the month-long observance of Ramadan, a period devoted by Muslims to prayer, fasting, reflection and charity. (PNA)
