The La Castellana municipal government has begun transferring families displaced by Typhoon “Tino” to a single, centralized evacuation site to improve the delivery of assistance and restore normal operations in public facilities.
La Castellana Mayor Añejo Nicor said a total of 978 families who lost their homes during the onslaught of the typhoon are being relocated to a designated municipal area where tents and basic facilities are now being set up.
The consolidation aims to streamline relief distribution, security and health services for affected residents.
Nicor explained that many of the displaced families previously lived in high-risk zones that have since been declared “no-build areas” due to safety concerns, particularly those vulnerable to flooding and landslides.
The centralized site will serve as a temporary shelter while authorities assess longer-term relocation options.
The move will also allow public schools that had been converted into evacuation centers to resume their primary function.
According to Nicor, vacating school facilities is crucial to ensure the immediate return of face-to-face classes and minimize further disruption to students’ education./CJ, WDJ
