The Negros Oriental provincial government has pledged justice, unity and continued support for the families affected by the deadly shooting in Sibulan town that left three police officers and one civilian dead on Friday night, January 9.
In an official statement, the provincial government expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the bereaved families, particularly that of Sibulan police chief, Police Captain Jose Edrohil Cimafranca, who was among those killed.
The provincial leadership honored the victims’ service and sacrifice, describing them as courageous public servants whose dedication will not be forgotten.
The provincial government emphasized its firm commitment to justice, noting the swift arrest of the suspect, who is also a member of the law enforcement community.
Officials stressed that the prompt apprehension underscores the principle that no one is above the law and reaffirmed confidence that the judicial system will handle the case with integrity and impartiality.
While acknowledging the gravity of the incident, the provincial government said the actions of one individual should not undermine public trust in the Philippine National Police (PNP).
It reiterated its confidence in the professionalism of the majority of police officers and cited the suspect’s immediate arrest as proof of accountability within the ranks.
The statement also called on residents of Sibulan and the rest of Negros Oriental to remain calm and united as the community mourns, urging the public to support one another in overcoming the pain and division brought about by the tragedy.
Assistance
In addition, the provincial government committed to providing assistance to the families of the fallen officers, saying it will explore all available support measures to honor their sacrifice through concrete action.
Looking ahead, the province vowed to work closely with PNP and other agencies to strengthen internal discipline, ethical standards, and mental health support within law enforcement to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
“This tragedy reminds us that justice must be swift, fair and impartial,” the statement said, adding that the province remains resolute in pursuing accountability, compassion and lasting peace.
The provincial government concluded by reaffirming its solidarity with the victims’ families, the law enforcement community, and the people of Negros Oriental, calling for collective resolve toward healing, justice and a safer province./CJ, WDJ
