Negrense Kent Jane Pastrana took the scoring cudgels for the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigresses as they toppled the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles, 75-66, in the UAAP Season 88 women’s basketball at the Blue Eagles Gym on Saturday night, October 11.
Pastrana finished with a double-double of 28 points and 11 rebounds, to go with four steals and two assists, as the Growling Tigresses improved to a 4-0 win-loss slate.
Karylle Sierba also delivered offensively off the bench with 12 markers, while Bridgette Santos finished with 10 points, eight steals, five assists, and four rebounds for the Growling Tigresses.
Pastrana, Sierba and Santos’ offensive contributions more than made up for the subpar performance of UST foreign student athlete Isioma Onianwa, who was held to two points, on 1-of-5 shooting, to go with five rebounds.
After being behind 35-41 at the half, the Growling Tigresses turned things around with a massive 21-7 scoring run in the third period, en route to building a 12-point edge in the final quarter.
Camille Malagar paced the Blue Eagles with 12 points, while Sarah Makanjuola added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds as they fell to a 3-1 win-loss slate.
Blue Eagles star Kacey dela Rosa, the reigning two-time UAAP women’s basketball MVP, had a subpar outing, tallying six points, on 2-of-7 field goal shooting, to go with nine rebounds.
With the outcome, UST swept its three games at the Blue Eagles gym on Saturday with the Tiger Cubs prevailing over the Blue Eaglets in the U-16 tourney, 83-74, and the Growling Tigers taking down the Blue Eagles in 3OT, 98-89, in men’s basketball./ASC, WDJ
