The Akari Power Chargers finally broke through against the powerhouse Creamline Cool Smashers, pulling off a thrilling 23-25, 25-23, 30-28, 23-25, 15-12 victory in the 2025 PVL Reinforced Conference at the City of Dasmariñas Arena in Cavite on Saturday, October 11.

American import Annie Mitchem made a dazzling debut, firing a game-high 34 points built on 33 attacks and one block to lead Akari’s stunning comeback against the defending champions.

But it was Negrense Christine Joy Soyud who provided the much-needed spark and stability for the Chargers with 14 points — highlighted by seven attacks, four service aces and three blocks — to complement Mitchem’s explosive scoring.

Mereophe Sharma and Celine Domingo added 13 and 12 points, respectively, as Akari displayed poise and composure in the deciding fifth set, capitalizing on Creamline’s errors to complete the upset.

The breakthrough ended Akari’s nine-game losing skid against the 10-time PVL champions, marking a statement win for the young squad.

“I’m very happy sa result namin,” Akari head coach Tina Salak said.

“Of course, matagal na ‘yung anticipation of a win against Creamline. It happened today, so thank you to the players,” she added.

Courtney Schwan led Creamline with 26 points, while Alyssa Valdez and Diana Carlos chipped in 18 and 12, respectively.

Meanwhile, the ZUS Coffee Thunderbelles finally earned its first official victory after dispatching the Chery Tiggo Crossovers, 25-15, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23.

American import Anna DeBeer made an explosive debut, scoring 37 points built on 35 attacks, one block and a service ace, to steer the Thunderbelles to a breakthrough win.

She got ample support from rookie Alexa Miner, who finished with 13 points, including 10 attacks, while Kate Santiago contributed seven markers in the Thunderbelles win./ASC, WDJ
