The Bacolod City government has formally expressed its intention to host the Batang Pinoy 2026 National Games, with Mayor Greg Gasataya saying the move is aimed at strengthening Bacolod’s position as a hub for sports tourism.

Gasataya confirmed that he has already relayed the city’s interest to Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman John Patrick Gregorio, following initial meetings on the possible hosting.

The mayor said he is optimistic that Bacolod will be considered, noting that the official announcement of the 2026 host will be made by the PSC either on October 30 or 31.

“This will not only highlight Bacolod as a sports destination but also bring significant economic and tourism impact, since thousands of young athletes from across the country take part in Batang Pinoy,” Gasataya said.

If granted hosting rights, Bacolod will have a busy sporting calendar in the next two years.

The city is already preparing for the University Games (Unigames) after the MassKara Festival 2025, with several other sports events lined up for 2026.

The Batang Pinoy, designed for athletes aged 15 years old and below, is a grassroots development program that provides young sports talents the opportunity to compete at the national level.

This year, General Santos City is hosting the games.

Bacolod’s bid marks its renewed push to stage national competitions as part of its broader tourism and youth development agenda./CJ, WDJ
