Authorities are investigating two separate incidents of men found dead in Negros Occidental’s San Carlos City and San Enrique town on Saturday, September 27.

A 79-year-old man identified as alias Fernando, a resident of Sitio Flum in San Carlos City’s Barangay Guadalupe, was found floating in a river at around 10:45 a.m.

According to police, they received a call from his son, who reported the discovery of the cadaver.

Family members said Fernando was last seen at around 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, after which he went missing.

The following morning, his body was spotted in the river.

The Philippine Coast Guard – San Carlos Substation assisted in retrieving the cadaver, which was later brought to a funeral home in the city.

A post-mortem examination by the City Health Officer is set to determine the cause of death.

Meanwhile, in San Enrique town, a 55-year-old farmer identified as alias Jurly, a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Sibucao, was discovered lifeless inside their farm in Purok Malipayon around 1:00 p.m.

Police immediately went to the site to investigate.

Initial findings revealed that the victim was discovered by his wife, who grew concerned after not hearing from her husband for two days.

She told investigators that Jurly asked permission at about 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, to stay on their farm to watch over their livestock.

When he failed to return home or communicate, she went to the farm past noon on Saturday and found him lying half on a folding bed with his head resting on the floor.

The San Enrique police requested an autopsy from the Rural Health Unit to determine the cause of death.

Authorities in both San Carlos and San Enrique are continuing investigations to establish the circumstances behind the two deaths./CJ, WDJ
