Kathlyn Bugna of Negros Occidental’s La Carlota City once again proved her mettle on the court, bagging two titles in the girls’ division of the Cong. Eric Olivarez National Open Tennis Championships held in Sucat, Parañaque City.

Showing no signs of slowing down, the 14-year-old Negrense standout stamped her class in the 14-and-under category, defeating fifth seed Michaela Suarez in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at the Olivarez Sports Center.

Bugna, seeded third, carried that momentum into the 16-and-under finals where she made quick work of No. 6 seed Tori Deocampo, scoring a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win to complete another title sweep.

She was the second seed in that division of the Group 2 tournament, staged as part of the Olivarez family’s continued push to develop grassroots tennis in the country.

Her victories in Parañaque add to an impressive string of titles she has collected since April, with earlier triumphs in Pasig, Iloilo, Bacolod, Roxas, Kalibo, and Cebu.

These consistent performances have solidified Bugna’s standing as one of the country’s rising junior tennis stars.

Armed with a potent mix of athleticism, strategic court sense and mental fortitude, Bugna continues to separate herself from her peers.

Her success is also a testament to the work of Team Batang Onay, whose grassroots program has been instrumental in honing her talents.

With each tournament, Bugna isn’t just building her resume — she’s setting the stage for a promising international career, with many watching her next moves closely./ASC, WDJ
