Southern Negros Occidental will host the Provincial Futsal Champions League, with matches scheduled in Kabankalan City and Ilog town on August 9 and 10.
The two-day tournament, organized by the Negros Occidental Regional Football Association (NORFA), forms part of its grassroots development program aimed at promoting futsal and football in local communities.
According to NORFA, the event seeks to strengthen the sport’s presence in the region and encourage young athletes to pursue futsal as a competitive discipline.
The competition comes as the Philippines prepares to host the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup later this year, with Negros Occidental’s Victorias City among the confirmed venues.
Officials believe this growing national attention on futsal provides an opportunity to develop talent at the grassroots level.
NORFA said the league will not only feature competitive action but also highlight the role of sports in fostering unity and inspiring local communities./ASC, WDJ
