Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is set to meet Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo this month in connection to the proposed revival of the Negros Island Region (NIR), but the exact date of the meeting has yet to be arranged.

Lacson said he had already talked with Degamo on the phone during the holiday break.

However, as of yesterday morning, he said he was still unable to reach his counterpart in Negros Oriental.

It can be recalled in December of last year that Degamo voiced a somewhat dissenting comment regarding NIR’s revival during the Regional Development Council meeting in Cebu City.

Degamo pointed out his reasoning behind the opposition to the NIR was due to “cultural differences,” a comment which was regarded by business groups in Negros as “shallow.”
