It’s Red vs Blue for Bacolod in 2022

Local party Grupo Progreso (GP) led by incumbent Bacolod City Mayor Evelio Leonardia revealed their lineup for the 2022 Presidential and Local Elections yesterday morning.

Leonardia will seek reelection alongside incumbent Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran.

Also seeking reelection in the city’s Sangguniang Panlungsod are Archie Baribar, Carl Lopez, Renecito Novero, Dindo Ramos, Cindy Rojas, and Israel Salanga.

GP also presented their new candidates vying for the city council. They are Jonathan Diaz, barangay kagawad of Barangay 18; businessman Ed Guillem; Cash Montalvo, the daughter of the late former Bacolod City Mayor and Father of the Masskara Festival Jose “Digoy” Yulo Montalvo Jr.; and Dr. Chris Sorongon, deputy for medical of the Bacolod City Emergency Operations Center.

Also joining the GP’s slate are Em Ang, who is seeking a return to the city council, and Marlon Solidum, who also previously ran in the 2016 elections.

GP also formally filed their certificates of candidacy (COC) yesterday afternoon, formally setting the “Battle Royale” between Leonardia’s group and the opposition party led by Alfredo Benitez of the Asenso for Better Bacolod (ABB) group.

On Tuesday, Benitez also launched his own slate for the 2022 polls after filing his COC.

Former Bacolod City councilor, Atty. Caesar Distrito, formerly a member of GP, is vying for the city’s vice mayoralty post under ABB.

Running for city councilors under the ABB slate are Homer Bais, Celia Flor, Vladi Gonzales, Patrick Lacson, Kalaw Puentevella, Thaddy Sayson, Pao Sy, Sonia Verdeflor, and Jason Villarosa.

Also included in the ABB slate are incumbent councilors Bart Orola, Simple Distrito and Al Victor Espino, all of whom are also former members of GP slate./WDJ
