A 45-year-old man was shot dead at around 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 23, at Sitio Malagapas Barangay Tan-awan in Negros Occidental’s Kabankalan City.

Police said the victim identified as Edwin Binaloga, a resident of the village’s Sitio Malagapas, sustained a gunshot wound on the right portion of the body. He was brought to the Kabankalan City District Hospital but was declared dead-on-arrival by the attending physician.

According to Binaloga’s wife Elsa, they were being followed while they were walking on their way to the farm. She added that she heard a gunshot and when she looked back, she saw her husband wounded.

Kabankalan City police investigation revealed that Elsa saw the suspect she identified as 30-year-old Junly Medez Leon running away after the incident.

Land dispute may have been the motive in the killing, police added.
