Seven police officers, a non-uniformed personnel and two job order workers of the San Enrique Police Station in Iloilo province’s San Enrique town were infected with coronavirus disease 2019, or COVID-19.
The 10 were part of the 27 police station personnel who underwent a RT-PCR test on Monday, March 8.
According to Mayor Rosario Mediatrix Fernandez, the 10 personnel likely got the virus from their deputy chief of police, the first one to test positive for the virus based on his swab test result on Saturday, March 6.
The police station personnel, who were all asymptomatic, along with the two municipal employees who also tested positive for the virus are now at the town’s quarantine facility, the mayor said.
While the police station remains open, Fernandez said the municipal hall is placed on lockdown starting this morning for thorough disinfection. They will resume operation on Monday, March 15.
The mayor said the two COVID-positive municipal employees were from the offices of the mayor and local civil registrar.
“Aside from disinfection, mahimu kita sang contact tracing kay may duha ka mga empleyado nga damo sang exposure sa iban nga mga municipal offices that’s why ma-lockdown kita para makaplastar sang maayo ang contact tracing,” said Fernandez.
San Enrique now has a total 97 COVID-19 cases, of which 35 are active, 59 have recovered and three have died due to the viral disease./WDJ
