A former barangay tanod was killed over the weekend after he was reportedly gunned down by New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Moises Padilla.
Police identified the fatality as 45-year-old Ronie Ortouste, a resident of Sitio Kabayabasan in the town’s Barangay Montilla.
Moises Padilla municipal police chief, Police Captain Harold Rendura, said Ortouste and his wife, Vilma, were walking along a road when they were ambushed by four men believed to be part of an NPA liquidation squad.
A foot chase ensued, which resulted in Ortouste’s death.
Vilma informed police that the suspected rebels also approached her husband and finished him off by shooting him in the head.
Rendura added, they are now looking into a possible motive behind Ortouste’s murder and are conducting a follow-up operation against the assailants./DGB, WDJ
