The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bacolod City said they will be seeking assistance from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) in response to stolen bolts from streetlights along the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road. Bacolod City District Engineering Office head, Engr. Abraham Villareal, said he will request BCPO officer-in-charge, Police Colonel Henry Biñas, to take preventative measures in order to avoid similar acts of theft in the future.
Villareal called the act a “threat to human life,” pointing out how the missing bolts could contribute to streetlights collapsing. He noted, “Some of them have only one-out-of-four remaining bolts, making [it] dangerous to vehicles passing by if the streetlights collapse.”
He added, a total of 18 bolts are currently unaccounted for.
Villareal explained, the missing bolts were dealt with last week but believes they could be stolen again without proper monitoring by law enforcement.
The city official characterized monitoring streetlights as “everybody’s responsibility.”/DGB, WDJ
