During a recent visit to Bacolod City, Senator-elect Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go expressed support for having the Department of Labor and Employment and national government resolve the recent case surrounding the rape of a female overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Kuwait.
He said President Rodrigo Duterte is already aware of the issue and complained to the Kuwaiti government over their citizens’ treatment of OFWs working in their country. The Kuwaiti government has since made necessary changes to protect the rights of OFWs.
Go also confirmed the suspect, a Kuwaiti police officer by the name of Fayed Naser, has been charged with sexual assault.
In order to further address such matters, the senator-elect said one of his primary objectives is to create the Department for Overseas Filipino Workers, which would deal with cases of abuse against OFWs.
Over the weekend, Go pledged assistance to those affected by last week’s fire in the city’s Barangay 2, which devastated Purok Cagaycay.
Aside from the turnover of relief supplies from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the senator-elect promised the affected families government housing from the National Housing Authority./DGB, WDJ
