The Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) deployed 348 personnel to various schools and roads throughout the city last Monday, when the 2019-2020 academic year began.
According to PSTMO head Jeck Conlu, members of their traffic division, special services division, auxiliary, and public safety unit were deployed as early at 6:30 a.m. in anticipation for a heavier rush hour.
He noted, this year’s operations did not encounter as many problems as last year.
“Among the factors, which I believe [contributed] to this year’s opening of classes [being] peaceful, [were] our efforts in relocating wrecked vehicles that [were] obstructing roads near schools,” the city official explained. “We [also] met with school officials to properly identify the entrance and exit of their schools to avoid confusion among drivers.”
“Operations in jeepney terminals were also peaceful,” Conlu added.
The PSTMO chief added, another influx of vehicle is expected next week, when private schools open on Monday, June 10./WDJ
