The Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) has deployed 1,612 police personnel across the region as part of its SAFE Balik Eskwela 2026 initiative to ensure a peaceful, orderly and secure opening of classes today, June 8.

The deployment covers both public and private schools, as well as major roads, transportation terminals, pedestrian crossings, and other key areas where large numbers of students, parents and commuters are expected to gather.

PRO-NIR said the deployed personnel will serve as police assistance desk officers, foot patrol teams and mobile patrol units to strengthen police visibility and provide immediate assistance during the first day of classes.

They will also assist in traffic management, monitor areas with high student concentration, and coordinate closely with school authorities, local government units and partner agencies to address security concerns and emergencies.

Police Brigadier General Romano Cardiño, PRO-NIR acting regional director, said the large-scale deployment reflects the police force’s commitment to provide a safe learning environment for students and peace of mind for parents and educators.

“As we welcome another school year, PRO-NIR ensures that every learner can pursue education in a safe, secure and peaceful environment,” Cardiño said.

He added that the goal is for every child to enter the classroom with confidence while ensuring that schools remain safe spaces where learning and opportunity can thrive.

PRO-NIR also urged the public to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious activities or safety concerns to police personnel deployed on the ground or to the nearest police station for prompt response and appropriate action.

With the security measures in place, the regional police office reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order throughout the opening of classes./CCJ, WDJ
