In an effort to prevent disease during the summer, the Iloilo City Health Office (CHO) offered recommendations to the public such as staying hydrated and avoiding sunlight.

“It is important for us to take good care of ourselves and, as much as possible, stay away from sunlight,” explained city health officer, Dr. Bernard Caspe.

“During [the] summer season, we are sweating too much and it is important to drink water,” he added.

Among the illnesses prevalent during the season include chicken pox, diarrhea, flu, heat stroke, measles, rabies, among others.

The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (PHO) earlier recommended daily baths as a way to avoid summer diseases.

“Kon indi ka maligo naga-dry ang skin (If you don’t take a bath, your skin will be dry),” explained Iloilo PHO head, Dr. Patricia Grace Trabado. “Kon ma-expose na sa init may tsansa nga maga-dry pa gid and maging susceptible [sa infection] (When exposed to the heat, there is a chance the skin will dry out even more, making one susceptible to infection).”

She also suggested drinking water daily to avoid dehydration and, when outside, to use an umbrella or wear a cap./WDJ
