In response to traffic congestion along McArthur Drive in Barangay Tabuc Suba, located in Iloilo City’s Jaro district, the Iloilo City Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) will be trying out an experimental traffic scheme starting on Monday, April 22.
“Traffic congestion starts exactly [at] the intersection near the bridge,” explained PSTMO head Jeck Conlu. “We will remove left turns and cross signage going towards Barangays San Isidro and Tabuc Suba as [they] will be transferred to the next intersection.”
According to the new arrangement, there will be no left turns permitted from McArthur Drive to Cubay-Balabago Road from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on weekdays. In addition, vehicles coming from Leganes to Balabago Road via McArthur Drive will be diverted to Balabago-Cubay Road.
No left turns will be permitted for vehicles bound for Jaro Plaza from Cubay-Balabago Road and no U-turns will be allowed in front of Jollibee.
“Cooperation and understanding [from] everyone will be much appreciated,” Conlu pointed out. “This experimentation will help decongest and [provide] a better approach to the bridge.”/WDJ
