PCL: Hilario’s murder was wrong because he was a public servant

The Negros Occidental chapter of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) yesterday condemned the murder of Moises Padilla Municipal Councilor Jolomar Hilario.
In an interview with Aksyon Radyo-Bacolod, PCL-Negros Occidental President and Kabankalan City Councilor Miguel Alonzo called Hilario’s murder “wrong” since he was a public servant.
The city official, while advising candidates to “be cautious at all times,” said he hopes the killing of government officials will not continue.
He also commended the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police for their fast reaction and the arrest of the 11 New People’s Army (NPA) members who may have been involved in Hilario’s murder.
Earlier, Hilario was gunned down after around 50 NPA rebels stormed his home in Barangay Inolingan, Moises Padilla.
Prior to the attack, Hilario had been receiving threats from the insurgent group.
Hilario is the first casualty in Negros Occidental after the start of the campaign period for local candidates.
The victim was the former barangay captain for the town’s Barangay Inolingan before running for municipal councilor in 2013.
He was aligned with incumbent Moises Padilla Mayor Magdaleno Peña./DGB, WDJ
