In response to fire emergencies that found firefighters encountering mobility issues when arriving on the scene, Iloilo City Mayor Jose Espinosa III said he will call on the City Engineer’s Office to construct alleys dedicated for fire emergencies at fire-prone areas of the city.

“This fire alley should not be obstructed so that our responders can easily penetrate the area during disaster,” he explained.

The plan was welcomed by the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

“Based on our observations, we could not enter the alley of some barangays because of parked vehicles,” BFP-Iloilo City operations chief, Senior Fire Officer 3 Aquilino Sampiano, pointed out. “Putting up fire alleys will be a big help to firefighters.”

Various fire sub-stations throughout the city have since identified such congested areas within their respective jurisdictions,/WDJ
