The remains found floating off the coast of Cauayan, Negros Occidental were recovered and identified late Monday afternoon.
Authorities identified the victim as 15-year-old Romel Palmaira, who reportedly went missing last January 16, along with his brother, 17-year-old Roben Palmaira.
Romel’s remains were positively identified by his mother based on the clothes and ring he was wearing.
The Palmaira brothers left Pulupandan in a small fishing boat last week but failed to return home.
The Philippine Coast Guard, meanwhile, also confirmed recovering the remains of another individual off Danjugan island in Cauayan, although, as of press time, they have to confirm if the remains belong to the other Palmaira sibling.
Meanwhile, the recovered remains were immediately buried in Pulupandan yesterday./DGB, WDJ
