Kabankalan City Mayor Isidro Zayco announced runway concreting is currently underway for the city’s airport project.
During last weekend’s Sinulog de Kabankalan Festival highlights, the mayor said the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has allocated P30 million for concreting, while the city government provided an additional P30 million.
Last year, the mayor noted, DOTr earmarked P60 million for the said runway, which was in addition to a previous P30 million allocated in the previous year. He also touted P30 million coming from the provincial government, along with a P50 million allotment from the city.
Construction on the airport began in 2007.
Meanwhile, the mayor reiterated his decision to retire from politics by June this year, following 31 years in elective office.
In addition to serving as mayor, Zayco had previously been elected Negros Occidental governor and vice governor, along with serving as a provincial board member./DGB, WDJ
