The US Embassy in the Philippines recently posted a warning on social media pertaining to the prevalence of emails purporting to be from the embassy regarding visas and “immigration benefits.”
“The US Embassy will not contact people offering them employment or ask for money in exchange for an immigration benefit,” they affirmed. “The embassy will never ask you to deposit money into a personal bank account or transfer money through a specific private money transfer company.”
The embassy also pointed out, communications from their office do not come from a public domain email address, adding, “It is easy for scammers to copy government logos to make their emails look official.”
They said embassy emails should come from a .gov address./WDJ
