Conflicting accounts on what caused the incident

A mall goer died yesterday morning after falling from the third floor of a major shopping mall located next to Bacolod City’s reclamation area.
Police identified the victim as 43-year-old Jeffrey Cordova, a resident of Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City.
Based on initial investigations by Police Station 1 (PS1), customers at the mall were horrified after witnessing Cordova fall from the third floor, near the establishment’s main atrium.
Security guards immediately cordoned off the area and mall medical personnel administered emergency treatment until Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office paramedics arrived.
The victim was rushed to the Riverside Medical Center for treatment, but he was declared dead on arrival by hospital staff.
When cops interviewed the victim’s wife, whom they have not named, she said Cordova suffered a seizure prior to the fall.
However, mall tenants offered a different account of the incident, claiming the victim intended to jump as they witnessed Cordova shouting before to the incident.
A deeper probe confirmed Cordova was said to be suffering from depression and had tried to commit suicide on four previous occasions.
Representatives from the shopping complex confirmed the incident occurred around 10:16 a.m., minutes after the mall opened.
They said mall emergency response teams immediately responded to the incident and the wife accompanied Cordova to the hospital.
PS1 is continuing its investigation into the incident.
This is the third such incident to take place at the local mall with the first happening in 2016, when a German-national committed suicide, followed by a student in 2017./DGB, WDJ
