Love Negros backs Arroyo kin in the 5th district

By Dominique Gabriel G. Bañaga

Negros Occidental Vice Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson yesterday confirmed Love Negros is endorsing Marilou Arroyo-Lesaca to represent the province’s fifth congressional district.

The candidate is the sister of former Negros Occidental fifth district Rep. Ignacio ‘Iggy’ Arroyo, Jr.

With the late politician’s kin entering the race, speculations another possible candidate, Himamaylan City Mayor Agustin Bascon, who is on his third and final term as mayor, may run for a seat on the Negros Occidental provincial board instead.

As of press time, Bascon could not be reached for his comment.

She will likely face United Negros Alliance-backed Board Member Alain Gatuslao in the race to succeed incumbent Rep. Alejandro Mirasol, who is currently serving his third and final term.

The late congressman served from 2004 until his passing in 2012, when he was replaced by Mirasol.

Earlier reports suggested Isabela Mayor Joselito Malabor, La Castellana Mayor Rhumyla Nicor Mangilimutan, and Binalbagan Mayor Emmanuel Aranda were planning to back Arroyo-Lesaca./DGB, WDJ
