A suspected riding-in-tandem robber was killed, while his accomplice managed to escape, after engaging in a gun battle with pursuing members of Police Station 2 (PS2) late Monday night along Burgos Extension in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City.
Police identified the fatality as Juniben Fulgo, while his accomplice was named as Jan-jan Beatingo. Both are residents of the city.
PS2 commander, Police Senior Inspector Leo Estopa, said, prior to the shootings, the suspects allegedly victimized 21-year-old April Rose Miranda and 21-year-old Nelche Grace Gallaza at the corner of 10th-Lacson Streets.
The suspects stole one of the victim’s bag, which contained money and valuables.
The pair then boarded their motorcycle and fled, while Miranda and Gallaza immediately visited PS2 to report the incident, wherein the suspects were positively identified through the station’s “rogue gallery.”
Estopa ordered a follow-up operation and managed to track down the suspects in Barangay Villamonte.
When cops flagged down the suspects, Beatingo reportedly opened fire, prompting police to respond.
During the gun battle, the cops hit Fulgo in the side of his body, while Beatingo sped away.
Fulgo was immediately rushed to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, but passed away yesterday morning.
In a radio interview following the incident, Beatingo’s live-in partner appealed for the suspect to surrender to police peacefully, expressing fear for his safety./DGB, WDJ
