Barangay Lunoy Captain Eustacio Porras of Calinog, Iloilo was killed in an ambush yesterday.

Calinog municipal police chief, Police Chief Inspector Jose Remias Pamplona, said the incident occurred around 10:30 a.m..

According to police, the barangay official was on his way home when two armed men, at the boundary of Barangays Carvasana and Tabucan, were waiting for his motorcycle. The two reportedly shot Porras, resulting in the victim falling to the ground.

One of the men then approached the barangay captain and shot him several more times.

Police are still looking into the motive behind the killing.

Pamplona noted there was a previous attempt at Porras’ life.

There are also allegations Porras was a former member of the Ilonggo group, notorious for kidnap-for-ransom schemes and also allegedly conducting gun-for-hire operations.

The local police chief, however, stressed those claims have not been validated.

Meanwhile, there is a manhunt underway for the two suspects, who reportedly fled towards Lambunao./WDJ
